A little insight to how the D.M Howie Mississippi High School All-Star Baseball Games began.  Coach D.M. Howie was born in Jackson, MS in 1930.  He went to Galloway Elementary, Bailey Junior High and Central High School.  At Central, he played one year of football, three years of basketball, and three years of baseball under Coach Robert Berry.

Over the years and after his service to his country, Coach Howie became a Little League umpire and coach, built his first baseball field (the Bobby Jacquith Field) and coached various high school baseball teams. He was selected for the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011. In retirement, he continues to contribute to high school sports and is a founding member of the Crossroads Diamond Club, serving as the first all-star coach in 1975.

Former, and current, players respect Coach Howie’s uncompromising work ethic – giving 100 percent, knowing the rules – playing to win – being a winner in everything, on and off the field.  His career record is 495 wins and 231 losses!
