PEARL, MS — The Mississippi Braves are excited to announce that the annual Pearl Day Festival will return to Trustmark Park Saturday, May 16. In addition to a three-day carnival starting Thursday night in the parking lot, The Charlie Daniels Band will perform a free concert Saturday evening inside the stadium.
“The Devil Went Down to Georgia” singer is set to take the stage in a FREE concert Saturday night. Two years after releasing his 1970 self-titled solo album for Capitol Records, he formed the Charlie Daniels Band. The group notched its first hit with “Uneasy Rider” and went on to record many memorable hits including “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America” and “The Legend of Wooley Swamp.”
CDB’s signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards. Over his 50+ year career, Daniel’s voice has spanned many genres including Christian, children’s music, bluegrass and of course, country.
A member of the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame, Daniels is a decorated artist. He’s been presented the Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music and was honored as a BMI Icon in recognition of his songwriting. Daniels also has a Music City Walk of Fame star. The music-filled evening starts at 4:00 PM when the Dylan Moss Project takes the stage. Acoustic Crossroads starts at 5:00 PM followed by Hairicane at 6:00 PM. The Jason Miller Band takes the stage at 7:00 PM prior to The Charlie Daniels Band. Fans should also stay tuned for a post-concert fireworks show. Trustmark Park gates open at 3:00 PM.
Mitchell Brothers and Sons will set up a carnival in the main parking lot at Trustmark Park. Carnival hours are as follows: Thursday 5:00 – 10:00 PM, Friday 5:00 – 11:00 PM and Saturday 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Presale armbands are available for $20 at Pearl Parks & Recreation. The deadline to purchase presale armbands is Wednesday, May 13 at 4:00 PM. Armbands purchased at the carnival at $25 and/or you many purchase individual ride tickets.
